Richard Wright Public Charter School is totally committed to your child’s academic success!  Yearly, our students are mandated to take the District of Columbia Comprehensive Assessment System (DC-CAS). The students testing cycle begins Tuesday, April 23, 2013 through Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Please find the scheduled testing per each grade below.

  • The 8th/Eighth Grade assessment entails the following areas: Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Health - Testing will be each day Tuesday, April 23, 2013 through Wednesday, May 1, 2013.
  • The 9th / Ninth Grade assessment entails the following areas: Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 and
    Wednesday, April 24th
    in Reading and on Monday, April 29, 2013 measure their achievement in the area of Health.
  • The 10th /Tenth Grade assessment entails the following areas: Reading, Mathematics, Biology, and Composition - Testing will be each day Tuesday, April 23, 2013 through Wednesday, May 1,
    2013
    .

It is our desire that your son or daughter receives the maximum opportunity to succeed. Therefore, please
encourage your child/children to go to bed early during the testing period and to arrive at school by 7:45am – 8:15am to eat a hearty breakfast.

It is crucial that your child is present no later than 8am each day for this mandated state assessment. Also please note, student dismissal during the DC-CAS is at 1:30pm.

We also ask you not to schedule and appointments or early dismissals for your son/daughter between the hours of 8 am – 1:30pm during the DC-CAS testing. If you have any questions please call Mrs. Williams, at 202.388.1011 ext. 124.

A culmination and collaboration of talent, skill, inspiration, aspirations, imagination, and hard work of our inaugural year at Richard Wright Public Charter School for Journalism and Media Arts in the ROXIE program will be featured for your enjoyment!

The RWPCS ROXIE (Reaching Our Excellence In Education) Program encompasses the Journalism and Media Arts focus of our school. As Roxie, Mississippi was the birthplace of Richard Wright, ROXIE serves as the birthplace and foundation for investigative thought, creativity, questioning, skill building, understanding, innovation, and analysis. Through a hands-on approach to learning, media product goals to achieve, partners and instructors in the professional community providing exciting opportunities and experiences in and beyond the classroom, RWPCS students learn fundamental concepts and skills essential in the fields of Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Film, Graphic Arts, Visual Art, and Music.

With snow continuing to fall, freezing sleet/rain to start near noon, temperatures hovering slightly above freezing, and always placing the safety of students and staff first, RWPCS officially announces its decision to move from a delayed-opening to a school closure for Monday, March 25, 2013.
